The Pot's the Limit: Hold 'em Poker Bet

Pot limit hold'em poker, like limit hold'em poker, allows only players to bet up to a certain amount. Unlike limit hold'em poker, however, there's no limit on the number of allowed raises per betting round per game. The highest amount that a player can raise or bet is equal to size or total amount of the pot at the moment of betting.

Again, in pot limit hold 'em poker, there's a limit is on how much a player can bet, and that amount is dependent on the constantly changing pot size.

The relationship between pot size and betting limit in pot limit hold'em poker is directly proportional. As the community pot increases in money volume, so does the bet limit.

How does pot limit hold'em poker work?

Let's say you're seated in a $5/$10 Pot Limit Hold'em Poker. At $5 small blind and $10 big blind, initial call would be the amount of the big blind which is $10.

Should the second player decide to raise, the player can raise more than $10 but not more than $25 which is the pot amount at the moment of betting. $25 is the total of the small blind ($5), the big blind ($10), and the first call ($10).

If the second player has made a pot-sized shot, the third player can raise up to $35. This makes the pot, in total, $50. The fourth player can throw between $35 to $120. This goes and so forth. Unlike in limit hold 'em, where increments are fixed, say to $5/$10, the increments in pot limit hold 'em poker are variable, getting larger as betting rounds proceed.

After the first rotation of betting is over, the dealer lays down 3 cards face down, then flips them altogether face up. These cards are referred to as The Flop. Another rotation of betting proceeds, following the betting pattern above as the rest of the betting rounds would.

The dealer then lays down a single card referred to as The Turn. Another rotation of betting proceeds in the same manner described above.

The dealer then deals the last card referred to as The River. Another rotation of betting proceeds.

When more than one player remains after The River, the game culminates in a showdown. The best hand is awarded the pot. It must be noted that the game may end anytime when all but one has folded.

Pot limit hold' em poker is a betting structure where the betting limit is the raise limit, and the raise limit is the current pot size. So raise 'em, but raise 'em no more than what the pot contains.
